A Poem About The Tomato

The Healthy Tomato

In Your Garden or on your porch or patio vision if you will

The sauces and sandwiches you will fill

With the weed that it once was

It took over gardens and was killed just because

They didn’t see the need for it,

Until someone one day tasted it.

It was mighty fine and others found out too

That the tomato was something they really could use

All the good things that you can make

From this weed for goodness sake

Sliced, Diced, Stewed and as Sauces are provided by nature

A bounty of Red’s, Black, Pink and White all fit into the picture

Amazing these energy packed little seeds

It holds all the Vitamin C your body needs

Being a weed they are very easy to grow

They grow kind of fast you know

Fill a 5 gallon bucket with dirt

Add some compost and used coffee grounds it won’t hurt

Put that little seed in it and plant it well

Watch the cycle from flowers to how large the fruit can swell

There are many varieties to suit your space

Patio, Cherry and Grape and ones that are the size of your dinner plate

Just like the many weeds on this earth

In time we are sure to find the plant’s true worth

So fill your garden with lots of these tomatoes

Plant them in pots, or buckets or right under your toes

Varieties with growing seasons that are short or long

Plant some tomatoes and you won’t go wrong.
